EE Roaming Charges (2026)

EE was the first big UK network to bring back European roaming charges, and its pricing now comes in three layers: a daily charge, cheaper multi-day passes, and plans that quietly include roaming already. Which layer you are on depends on your plan and when you took it — here is the whole picture, with the numbers.
On most pay-monthly plans, EE charges £2.72 a day in Europe (or £16.50 for a 7-day pass), £6 a day in Turkey, the USA and Thailand, and £6–£16 a day elsewhere in the world. Ireland is free. Your fair-use data cap when roaming is 50GB. If your plan is an All Rounder, Full Works or Essentials Plus, European roaming may already be included — check before you pay anything.
EE roaming charges by destination
Pay-monthly charges, checked 20 October 2026 against EE's published prices (via billshock.co.uk's network-checked roaming table and EE's price guide). Your plan and contract date can change your rate — EE's own checker is the final word.
| Destination | EE charge | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Republic of Ireland | Free | Included in your normal allowance |
| Europe zone (Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Portugal and 40+ more) | £2.72/day | Or 7-day pass £16.50 / 12-day pass £27.50. Switzerland is inside EE's Europe zone |
| Turkey | £6/day | £42 for a week of daily use |
| USA | £6/day | £42 for a week of daily use |
| Thailand | £6/day | £42 for a week of daily use |
| Rest of the world | £6–£16/day | Priced by zone — EE publishes each destination's rate in its roaming checker |
Two traps sit inside that table. First, the daily charge is triggered by use — data, a call or a text — so a phone syncing email in your pocket starts the meter. Second, "Europe" is EE's own list, not the map: Turkey, Albania and most of the Balkans look European but are priced as rest-of-world, at roughly two to six times the European rate.
EE's roaming passes and add-ons
EU passes. If you will use your phone on most days of a European trip, the passes beat the daily drip: £16.50 for 7 days and£27.50 for 12 days, against £2.72 a day (£19.04 and £32.64 respectively at the daily rate). The crossover is around six days — shorter than that, pay daily; longer, buy the pass.
Plans that include roaming. EE has folded roaming into its pricier plans rather than selling it separately. All Rounder, Full Works and Essentials Plus plans include European roaming; Full Works goes further and includes roaming in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and dozens more destinations (85 in total). The old standalone Roam Abroad Pass add-on is no longer the product it was — EE withdrew it as a 30-day add-on in 2024 — so what matters is what your current plan already bundles. Check in the My EE app before buying any pass: plenty of people pay for roaming they already have.
Pay as you go. PAYG runs on a separate scheme: a Roam Like Home add-on at £2.50 for 24 hours or £10 for 7 days in the EU, or data add-ons at £3 for 500MB. Your roaming fair-use cap on PAYG is 25GB rather than 50GB.
Check your own rate before you go: text ROAM to 150from your EE phone, or use EE's roaming charge checker for your exact destination and plan.
Fair use: the caps behind the charges
- 50GB data cap. If your UK allowance is bigger than 50GB, EE caps roaming data at 50GB per billing month (25GB on pay as you go). Beyond the cap, data costs £3.69 per GB.
- Two months in four. EE limits roaming to 2 months within any 4-month period; beyond that, surcharges apply. Roaming is for holidays, not for living abroad on a UK SIM.
- The contract-date rule. The £2.72 European daily charge applies to plans started or upgraded after 7 July 2021. If your plan predates that and you have never upgraded, EU roaming may still be included — another reason to check before paying.
- Wi-Fi Calling does not dodge it. EE's Wi-Fi Calling does not work abroad, so it is not a way around the daily charge.
How to avoid EE roaming charges
In rough order of effort:
- Check what your plan already includes. Premium EE plans bundle European (and on Full Works, much wider) roaming. Two minutes in the My EE app can make this whole page moot.
- Buy the pass, not the days. On a European trip of six days or more, the 7- or 12-day EU pass is cheaper than the daily charge.
- Run data through a travel eSIM instead. Keep your EE SIM in the phone for calls and texts, switch EE data roaming off, and let an eSIM carry the data. In Turkey that swaps £42 a week of EE charges for a $12 eSIM; in the USA, £42 for a $16.90 one; in Europe, EE's pass money roughly matches a Europe eSIM that also covers Switzerland. Our destination guides price each trip both ways.
- Mind the trigger. The daily charge starts on first use — including background data. If you are not using a pass or an eSIM, keep data roaming off from the moment you board, and download maps, music and boarding passes on home Wi-Fi.
- Watch the borders. Near a border (or on a Greek island within reach of a Turkish mast), your phone can hop to a network in a pricier zone and trigger that zone's daily charge. Setting network selection to manual prevents the accident.
EE roaming FAQs
How much does EE charge for roaming in Europe?
£2.72 a day on pay-monthly plans started or upgraded after 7 July 2021 — or £16.50 for a 7-day EU pass, £27.50 for 12 days. All Rounder, Full Works and Essentials Plus plans include EU roaming, and older plans may too.
Is EE roaming free in Ireland?
Yes — calls, texts and data in the Republic of Ireland come out of your normal allowance at no extra charge.
How much does EE charge for roaming in Turkey and the USA?
£6 a day in each — and the same in Thailand. That is £42 for a week of daily use, which is why the eSIM comparison on ourTurkey and USA pages is so one-sided.
What is EE's roaming fair-use limit?
50GB of data per billing month on pay monthly (25GB on pay as you go) if your UK allowance exceeds it; £3.69 per GB beyond the cap. EE also limits roaming to 2 months in any 4-month period.
How do I avoid EE roaming charges?
Check your plan's included roaming first, buy an EU pass rather than paying daily on longer European trips, and for data-heavy or rest-of-world trips, run data through a travel eSIM with EE data roaming switched off. Theroaming hub compares every UK network the same way.
EE charges on this page were checked on 20 October 2026 against published sources — billshock.co.uk's network-checked roaming table and EE's published price guide — and can change.
